Field Entry-Exit

The entry-exit gate to the CMAC Flying Field is located off the north-bound lane of the Monaro Highway, Symonston. The Highway is a divided road at this location, with a speed limit of 100 kph in both directions.

The central highway division at the CMAC gate is a 35 metre-wide nature strip containing clusters of trees. See aerial photo at right.

Under Australian Road Rules it is illegal for motorist to drive on highway dividing strips such as this nature strip, and significant penalties apply. See for example General Driving Offences Rule 137(1)

Consequently, when arriving at CMAC from the north or departing from CMAC to the south, motorists must not drive across the Monaro Highway dividing strip at the CMAC gate.

CMAC Field from Air

When arriving from the north, motorists should proceed south past the CMAC field for 1.0 km to the AMC traffic lights, make a U-turn there and take the north-bound Monaro Highway back to the CMAC gate.

Similarly, when departing to the south, motorists should turn left from the CMAC gate, proceed north for 0.7 km to the Monaro Park cross-over, carefully make a U-turn there and take the south-bound Monaro Highway.
